Remote desktop access can allow you or others in your local network to control your Mac from another computer. If you work from home, there might be situations when you would want to enable remote desktop access on your Mac - whether it's sharing work between a home and work computer, or allowing an IT specialist to fix a problem on your computer without being in the same room.

How to allow remote desktop access on a Mac

  1. Go to System Preferences, then click "Sharing."

  2. Select the "Remote Management" checkbox. You may be asked to select which options remote users will be permitted to perform. Set these manually by clicking "Options."

  3. To choose who has access to your computer, you can choose either "All users," which will allow everyone on your computer's account to access the computer remotely, or "Only these users," which allows you to pick specific users within a network.
  4. To adjust more settings, click "Computer Settings" and adjust what will be displayed when someone else is accessing your computer remotely or what other users have to do to request remote access.
