These are India’s top 10 'most livable' cities, according to the government's Ease of Living Index 2020

#1 Karnataka’s Bengaluru emerged as the top performer among the cities with more than one million population in the ease of living category. At the same time, Himachal Pradesh’s Shimla ranked the highest in less than one million population category.

#2 Maharashtra’s Pune was ranked India’s second most livable city with more than one million population, and Odisha’s Bhubaneswar bagged the same position in less than one million population category.

#3 Gujarat’s Ahmedabad bagged the title of India’s third most livable city with more than one million population after scoring 64.87 out of 100. Dadra and Nagar Haveli’s Silvassa also stood third in less than one million population categories.

#4 Tamil Nadu’s Chennai scored 62.61’s and stood fourth in the list of most livable cities with more than one million population. Andhra Pradesh’s Kakinada was also ranked fourth in less than one million population categories.

#5 Gujarat's Surat and Tamil Nadu Salem bagged India’s fifth most livable city in more than one million population and less than one million population categories, respectively.

#6 The index ranked Maharashtra’s Navi Mumbai as the sixth most livable city in more than one million population category. Tamil Nadu's Vellore bagged the same position in less than one million population category.

#7 Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore scored 59.72 out of 100, and Gujarat’s Gandhinagar scored 56.25 — placing them in the seventh position in the list of most livable cities in India.

#8 Gujarat's Vadodara and Haryana’s Gurugram were the eighth-most livable cities in India in more than one million population and less than one million population categories, respectively.

#9 Madhya Pradesh's Indore bagged India’s ninth most livable city in more than one million population category, Karnataka’s Davangere stood ninth in less than one million population categories.

#10 Maharashtra’s Greater Mumbai and Tamil Nadu’s Tiruchirapalli were placed on the tenth in the list for most livable cities in India in more than one million population and less than one million population categories, respectively.
