EdelGive Foundation, along with Hurun India, has released the seventh edition of EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2020 today. The list includes 112 people, up 12% against the last edition.

Education remains the leading cause supported by donors. Healthcare and water conservation also witnessed a spike in donations compared to last year. Mumbai topped the preferred city of residence for top philanthropists with 36 names from the city; Delhi and Bengaluru followed.

Nearly 28 philanthropists have been added for the first time this year. The new additions include SD Shibulal of Infosys, Amit and Archana Chandra of A.T.E. Chandra Foundation, and Shri Ram Beriwala & Shyam Sunder Beriwala of Shyam Steels.

With a donation of ₹7,904 crore, Azim Premji, the founder chairman of Wipro, tops the EdelGiveHurun India Philanthropy List 2020. The primary cause of donation has been towards education. According to Hurun India, Premji donated nearly ₹22 crore per day.

​Shiv Nadar and family

HCL Technologies founder chairman, Shiv Nadar, has been ranked second in the EdelGiveHurun India Philanthropy List 2020. Nadar has donated over ₹795 crore — which is 4% less than last year.

​Mukesh Ambani and family

​Mukesh Ambani and family

With a donation of ₹458 crore, the Chairman of Reliance Industries Mukesh Ambani and family occupied the third spot in EdelGiveHurun India Philanthropy List 2020. Ambani kept his position steady with an increase of 14% in his donations. He has largely contributed to disaster relief.

​Kumar Mangalam Birla and family

​Kumar Mangalam Birla and family

With a donation of ₹276 crore, Aditya Birla Group chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla and family ranked fourth in EdelGiveHurun India Philanthropy List 2020. Birla has primarily contributed to education, with a 249% increase in his donations.

​Anil Agarwal and family

The founder and chairman of Vedanta, Anil Agarwal and family occupied the fifth position in EdelGiveHurun India Philanthropy List 2020. Agarwal & family donated ₹215 crore primarily towards healthcare, and his donations were up 90% from last year.

​Ajay Piramal and family

The chairman of Indian conglomerate Piramal Group, Ajay Piramal and family contributed nearly ₹196 crore towards education. Piramal slipped one position to sixth place in the list with his donations down 2% compared to last year.

Nandan Nilekani

The Co-founder and Chairman of Infosys, Nandan Nilekani, ranked seventh in the list — after slipping three positions. Nilekani donated over ₹159 crore primarily towards sustainable development.

Hinduja brothers ranked eighth in EdelGiveHurun India Philanthropy List 2020 with a donation of ₹133 crore — up nearly 156% compared to last year. A significant portion of their contribution was primarily towards healthcare.

With a donation of ₹88 crore, Chairman of Adani Group Gautam Adani and family are at the ninth spot in the list. Adani majorly contributed towards education, with a nearly 5% increase compared to his past donations.

The chairman of Bajaj Auto, Rahul Bajaj and his family ranks at the tenth position on EdelGiveHurun India Philanthropy List 2020. Bajaj contributed around ₹74 crore, primarily towards livelihood enhancement.
