Google CEO Sundar Pichai has lost a fifth of his wealth last year, according to the IIFL Hurun India Rich List 2022. His net worth fell 20% to ₹5,300 crore, but he ranks amongst the top ten richest professional managers in the list.

Back in 2018, Pichai turned down a fresh grant of stock options, saying he was already paid “generously”.

Some of his peers who are Indian origin CEOs of US based companies also did not do very well, wealth-wise. Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen’s wealth fell 16% to ₹3,800 crore.

The wealth of Satya Nadella, the CEO of Microsoft did not change last year and stood at ₹6,200 crore.

The former executive chairman of Mastercard and currently the vice chairman of equity firm General Atlantic, Ajay Banga is richer than Nadella, Pichai and Narayan. But, he too lost 6% of his wealth last year – which now stands at ₹6,500 crore.

Thomas Kurian, who currently heads Google Cloud, lost 3% of his wealth last year. He currently has a wealth of ₹12,100 crore, according to the Hurun rich list.

The report notes that the professional managers in this list are those who have created their wealth from the stock options of the companies they worked for.

Some of them have now left those companies and joined new ones – like Thomas Kurian, who left Oracle to head Google’s cloud division; and Ajay Banga, who left Mastercard to join General Atlantic.
