Remember Coldplay’s music video ‘Hymn for the Weekend’ featuring Beyoncé? The Lead singer Chris Martin rides a taxi while he sings along. If you were paying attention you might have noticed, the cab had pretty unique interiors.

Mumbai-based Taxi Fabric, led by Sanket Avlani is a one-of-its-kind art project that has brought together a team of designers who have been upholstering Mumbai’s taxis and auto-rickshaws with kitsch-based designs.

This completely revolutionizes the experience of riding in a cab. As one starts to notice the awesome detailing and the bright colors, you feel like you’re in a moving art gallery, and not just riding in a cab. Since the work of every designer is unique, no two taxi interiors look the same.

Taxi Fabric gets the best out of both worlds – the taxis get refreshing makeovers while the designers get a lot of exposure. Each vehicle comes with a label that has the name of the designer and his/her contact details.

The next time you’re in Mumbai, try finding yourself one of these special rides. You’ll have one hell of a tour.
