This historic New York hotel will be PM Modi’s abode, despite fears of Chinese ‘spying’During the New York leg of his visit to the US later this month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has decided to stop off at the iconic Waldorf-Astoria hotel despite US president Barack Obama’s rejection to stay there. China’s Anbang Insurance Group had acquired Astoria in 2014.

In the past, the US administration has accused Chinese of stealing data and personal information from the State Department and White House. And if Obama stays at the Waldorf, the US administration fears that it may have to deal with bugs and cyber spies, as per a Times of India report.

But PM Modi does not share the same fear. This is perhaps the reason why he has decided to relinquish the New York Palace Hotel, which has been the favourite destination for the PMO for many years.

President Obama, on the other hand, will now be staying at the New York Palace Hotel, which was bought by the Koreans earlier this year. This is perhaps the indication of the US comfort zone in Asia, the TOI report concluded.
