Trump continues raging at the media and polls on the second day of his summer break
President Donald Trump again raged at media outlets during the second day of his summer vacation, criticizing The New York Times, The Washington Post, and pollsters that showed his approval rating at new lows.
In a series of tweets on Tuesday, the president went after the Post and the Times for allegedly failing to seriously cover former President Bill Clinton and former Attorney General Loretta Lynch's meeting last year on an airport tarmac during the FBI's investigation into Hillary Clinton's email practices. Lynch later recused herself from the investigation, but she and Bill Clinton maintained they did not discuss the former secretary of state's use of a private email server.
The tweet came after reports from right-wing outlets showing email exchanges between the Department of Justice and various reporters, which conservative groups like the conservative American Center for Law and Justice said showed reporters did not want to cover the meeting.
The Post's fact-checker said Trump's tweet was inaccurate, noting the Post's coverage of the meeting. Politico's Hadas Gold reported that the Times partially knocked down the claim that a reporter was uninterested in covering the story.
In another tweet on Tuesday, Trump also revived a trope that he famously employed on the campaign trail, dismissing the accuracy of polls that showed his popularity slipping.
Months after the conclusion of the 2016 election, Trump has continued to rage about the meeting between Bill Clinton and Lynch while dismissing concerns about numerous members of his inner circle and campaign failing to disclose private meetings with people with ties to the Russian government during the election.
E-mails show that the AmazonWashingtonPost and the FailingNewYorkTimes were reluctant to cover the Clinton/Lynch secret meeting in plane.
