- President Donald Trump's approval rating has jumped four points since special counsel Robert Mueller's indictments.
- His approval rating, as tracked by Gallup, is still far lower than other past presidents at this stage of an administration.
- But it shows, as one expert said, that his support is "stable."
President Donald Trump has watched his Gallup approval jump by four points since special counsel Robert Mueller's indictments on Monday.
On Thursday, Trump's approval rating hit 38% in Gallup - still far lower than past presidents at this young stage of a presidency, but a substantial increase from the 34% he was at following the massive news from Mueller's Russia probe.
Over that same time, Trump's disapproval rating decreased from 62% to 58%.
Earlier this week, in a Gallup poll released Monday, Trump sank to the lowest approval rating of his presidency - 33%. That poll was conducted partially before news of the indictments came out.
"Since Manafort indictment, Gallup went from 34-62 Trump approval spread to 38-58 today," Kyle Kondik of the University of Virginia Center for Politics tweeted. "That's still bad but can't say it really hurt him."
"And let me just reemphasize - Trump's approval is very weak, and I doubt his weakness is that overstated," he added. "But also stable."
Trump's former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, was indicted by a grand jury Monday on 12 counts. Manafort's former business associate and a member of the Trump orbit, Rick Gates, was also indicted. Both men pleaded not guilty on Monday.
Additionally, in charges unsealed on Monday, it was revealed that George Papadopoulos, a foreign-policy adviser to Trump's campaign in early 2016, pleaded guilty to making false statements to the FBI regarding contacts connected to Russian government officials.
Responding to the news, Trump insisted there was "NO COLLUSION," and called Papadopoulos a "young, low level volunteer ... who has already proven to be a liar."
