- Dana White says he's talking with Floyd Mayweather about the former boxer joining UFC.
- The comments come just days after Mayweather claimed that he was offered $1 billion for a potential multi-fight deal with the brand.
- While it's hard to believe that Mayweather would put his perfect fighting record on the line to enter a UFC fight, the same could have been said before he and Conor McGregor met in the boxing ring earlier in the year.
Dana White says that he and Floyd Mayweather are discussing the possibility of a deal that would bring the undefeated boxer out of retirement and into the UFC for another megafight.
According to ESPN's Brett Okamoto, White, the president of UFC, and Mayweather have had conversations on the topic. While fight fans still think the possibility of such a fight is a long-shot, he noted that many thought the same of Mayweather's last fight as well.
"We're talking to Floyd about doing a UFC deal," White told ESPN. "It's real. He was talking about [boxing] Conor McGregor. Was that real? Have you heard Floyd talk about many things that aren't real? He usually tips his hand when he's in the media and then that s--- ends up happening."
Mayweather himself has also discussed conversations he had with the UFC, claiming last week that there was a potential deal where he could "do a three or four-fight deal and make $1 billion."
Mayweather retired with an unblemished 50-0 record in the boxing ring after beating UFC superstar Conor McGregor by technical knockout. With how much pride Mayweather has staked on his unbeaten career, the idea of him putting that perfection on the line to get manhandled in an MMA fight seems pretty absurd on its face.
That said, a billion dollars would be a lot to turn down for a man nicknamed "Money."
McGregor has said that Mayweather has some skills that he believes would translate well in the octagon.
"Strong in the clinch. Great understanding of frames and head position," McGregor wrote of Mayweather in an Instagram post. "He has some very strong tools he could bring into an MMA game for sure."
Should Mayweather actually decide to go into a deal with UFC, there's no doubt that he would be paired with McGregor again at some point, and there's no doubt the world would once again be watching.
