Economists forecast that claims, which provide a reading of the labor market's health and the pace of layoffs, fell to 260,000.
The prior Thursday saw claims fall by 10,000 to 265,000, in line with expectations.
As of last week, claims have been below 300,000 for 95 straght weeks - the longest streak since 1970.
