While on one hand, Indian e-commerce firms are looking at ways to discontinue discounts from their portals in a bid to preserve their rapidly declining cash reserves, a new survey has said that 54% of urban Indians shop online only when they get discounts, no matter the freebies.

As per results of an app-based poll conducted by Inshorts and Ipsos, if customers find that the product is available for same price online and offline, they would prefer to buy it from brick and mortar stores rather than from e-commerce websites.

The poll saw participation of almost 1.5 lakh Urban Indians, living in top metros like New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, Pune, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh and Lucknow, says ET.

80% of the respondents who took part in the survey were less than 35 years of age.

The results of the survey are surely going to disturb e-tailers, especially since the new FDI rules put restrictions on discounts offered on e-commerce platforms.
