A new, more powerful version of the PS4 is coming in October
Kotaku had previously reported on this new and improved "PlayStation 4.5." Kotaku said the "PlayStation 4.5" would come with an upgraded graphics card, which would allow for better graphics and smoother performance on games.
At the moment, the PS4 can only output games at 1080p resolution, which is a quarter of 4K resolution.
Releasing a beefed-up PS4 sometime before October lines up nicely with Sony's October launch event for the PlayStation VR virtual reality headset that's designed to work with the PS4.
Indeed, gamers would greatly benefit from a more powerful PS4 for VR games, which need a lot of power to play smoother with decent graphics.
The WSJ also reported that gamers could play the same games on both versions of the console. But gamers who want to experience games with "enhanced graphics and power" would need the new version of the PS4.
