As per the latest financial numbers available with the Registrar of Companies, the Indian arm of Alibaba made a profit of more than Rs 1 crore on the sale of Rs 20 crore in FY2012-13. "We are currently in a quiet period," said Pamela Munoz, manager, international corporate communications, at Alibaba.
Over 1.3 million suppliers are registered on the website of Alibaba's Indian wing, which is second only to China's 8.2 million, which is its home market. Alibaba runs an online business-to-business (B2B) marketplace, whereas Amazon and Flipkart directly sell products to end consumers.
