JSW Sports on Monday said it has signed a multi-year contract with 19-year-old Indian cricketer Shafali Verma. As part of the association, Verma's commercial and brand partnerships will be managed by JSW sports.

This is a big step for women cricket players in the country that has so far focused on male cricketers who earn a huge chunk from brand endorsements. Cricketers are among the sport personalities who attract large endorsements.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to sign with JSW Sports. The organisation has played a massive role in the growth of many athletes' brands across the country and it's a huge honour for me to be a part of an esteemed players' roster. I look forward to a fantastic relationship with JSW Sports,” said Verma.

Verma has played two test matches — 21 ODIs and 56 T20s for India. The batter has scored 2,106 runs in international cricket, which includes 12 half-centuries.

“We’re ecstatic to have Shafali as a part of our JSW Sports family. Shafali has caught the imagination of cricket lovers through her fearless approach with the bat and we believe that she has tremendous potential as a brand as well. We are looking forward to working closely with Shafali,” said Divyanshu Singh, chief operating officer at JSW Sports.

GroupM ESP Sporting Nation Report 2023 says that as the Indian women’s team has progressed by leaps and bounds in the last few years, women cricketers like Harmanpreet Kaur, Mithali Raj and Smriti Mandhana are also attracting brand endorsements.

With the rollout of Women's Premier League from 2023, these women players are expected to bag a lot more endorsements.

JSW Sports also handles commercial partnerships for Neeraj Chopra, Jemimah Rodrigues, Pawan Sehrawat, Sakshi Malik, Axar Patel and several other Indian athletes.
