Kochi, Mar 17 (): SmartCity Kochi has won an industrybody's award for ecological sustainability in recognition ofthe IT townships go-green efforts that save energy, conservewater, recycle waste, avoid plastic and promote overallcleanliness.

Known to be the best of the best within the facilitymanagement sector, the honour - FM Excellence Award for 2019-2020 - comes from the Infrastructure, Facility, Human Resourceand Realty Association (iNFHRA) that enables government andindustry bodies to deliberate on policy issues, according to apress release here on Tuesday.

Aiming to promote high standards among its members andencourage best practice in the industry to improvepositioning and competitiveness, the organisation alsointeracts with international partners to promote globalisationand economic development of the Indian industry.

SmartCity Kochi Infrastructure Pvt Ltd wasshortlisted for the award along with other majors such asBosch, Ramanujan IT City and Yamaha Motors, considering theircontribution to green energy, water management and environmentmanagement, the release said.

SmartCity Kochi CEO Manoj Nair, while hailing theiNFHRA award, as a great honor and recognition, said the2016-founded special economic zone gives high priority tosustainable energy and other green initiatives in all itsprojects.

SmartCity Kochi has established a 564-kWP rooftopsolar photovoltaic plant with the objective of reducingdependency on conventional sources by at least 10 per cent.

A rainwater harvesting tank of capacity 400 KL isin place even as the treated water is fully used as per thenorms of the State Pollution Control Board.

Also, aerators are used in taps to optimise waterusage.

Further, SmartCity Kochi has set up ODS (ozonedepletion substance) restriction, banned single-use plasticsand promoted digital advertising platforms, besides havinginstalled organic waste composting and rooftop gardening.

The iNFHRA awards for 2019-2020 were supported bymajor international property consultants such as CBRE SouthAsia, Cushman & Wakefield, Jones Lang LaSalle and Knight FrankIndia Pvt Ltd as outreach partners.
