It introduced e-learning modules, quizzes, masterclasses and creative sessions for employees — as a ‘work from home’ measure. This move is expected to benefit over 10,000 of its employees.
“In these unprecedented times, we have created this unique programme to make sure that our crew is empowered to use their time efficiently. Through this, we hope to keep our people engaged, connected and motivated, so they are able to come back to work better and stronger,” said Seema Arora Nambiar, SVP, Menu, Marketing and People Resources at McDonald’s India.
The course, which can be accessed through mobile phones, is designed to cater to the restaurant management team and frontline crew — so as to keep them productively engaged and upskill them for a better comeback. These classroom training modules include McCafé masterclass, equipment masterclass and several orientation programmes across roles.
Indian restaurants in India reported a 35% drop due to lockdown that resulted in fewer footfalls as people practice social distancing. Not just the restaurant management, it impacted other hospitality employees like tour guides, restaurant sanitation workers, waiters, and produce suppliers.
However, this is not the first time that the fast food chain initiated an employee upskilling programme. In October 2019, McDonald’s partnered with Retail Association’s Skill Council of India (RASCI) to launch an undergraduate course in retail operations — to train floor managers for retail stores.
It included a classroom course and on-the job training across McDonald's restaurants in the West and South region.
