Chennai rains force IIT Madras to reschedule placements to January 6

The unprecedented downpour and flooding in Chennai that brought the city to a standstill has also forced the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras to reschedule itsplacement to early January.The placement will now start on January 6, 2016, the institute said in a release. It was stalled after the first day on December 1.

The first five days, till January 10, will have two sessions per day (7 am to 2 pm and 4 pm to 11 pm). There will be no interviews on January 11, while January 12-14 will have one session per day (10 am to 5 5 pm), the IIT statement said.
The decision was taken in consultation with student representatives, IIT Madras director Bhaskar Ramamurthi and dean of students Sivakumar, besides Babu.

On December 1, IIT Madras students received six offers from five companies in the graveyard session (beginning 12 in the midnight). The forenoon session saw 85 offers coming from 18 companies while there were 26 offers from eight companies in the afternoon session. This added up to 117 offers from 31 companies.
Invitations are being sent to the companies informing them of the revised schedule. "The students and the placement team are optimistic that the event will be a success," the release stated.
