All those who were kids in the 90s had either crushed on one of the Backstreet Boys, had their poster on the wall, or spent school breaks debating who is the cutest among the five. The rest at least had a ‘cassette’ of one of the many hit singles this boy band released.

It’s time for the fans to get nostalgic as Backstreet Boys will be performing in India this May as part of their DNA world tour.

Who are the Backstreet Boys?

Formed in 1993, the five-member band released its first album in 1996 with Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, AJ McLean, Brian Littrell and Kevin Richardson. It went on to become one of the most popular vocal groups in music history — delivering one hit after another.

The band enjoyed massive success as a group — until 2005, when Richardson left to pursue other interests. While many speculated that this could spell doom for the band, it still went on to deliver two hit albums - Unbreakable (2007) and This Is Us (2009).

Three years later, in 2012, Richardson rejoined the group — a year before their 20th anniversary. In their three-decade-long career, the Backstreet Boys have released 10 albums.

In 2013, they released their first independent album, In a World Like This. The band also released their documentary, Backstreet Boys: Show 'Em What You're Made Of, in 2015.

In 2019, their album DNA debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 charts — nearly 20 years after their first album was released.

The enduring charm

Over the years, several boy bands have gone on to capture the audience’s heart — be it the classic Beatles, local indie-pop bands like Band of Boys or Euphoria, or a GenZ favourite, One Direction.

But many of these groups split up — and fewer still, could match the phenomenon and enduring charm of Backstreet Boys.

The band is performing in India after 13 years. They last performed in India in 2010 when they headlined the Romanov Red Rock 'n India music festival in Delhi.

The band will perform in India on May 4 and May 5, 2023, at Jio World Gardens in Mumbai and at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi, respectively. While the ticket prices have not yet been revealed, people can register on the online entertainment ticketing platform BookMyShow to receive updates and purchase tickets, once they go live.
