French police have shot and killed man outside a Paris police station after he reportedly tried to enter the building armed with a knife.
Le Parisian is also claiming that the man was wearing a suicide vest. This has also been reported by Reuters and attributed to France's interior ministry.
The incident occurred in the city's 18th arrondissement, located north of the centre of Paris, and comes on the one-year anniversary of the Charlie Hebdo terrorist attacks.
Twitter user Anna Polonyi posted this photo (warning it contains content some may find disturbing) showing a robot appearing to inspect the attacker's body outside the station.
Residents near the scene have been told by police to shut their windows and stay off their balconies.
One told Le Parisien:
I heard three or four gunshots at about midday. I work nights, so that woke me up.
When I went to the window I saw that there was one person on the ground with blood on his body.
Right now there is no-one in the street. All the shops have closed their shutters and everything is locked down.
