  • Modi today announced that India will remain under lockdown until May 3.
  • While Indians realised the need of the hour, they didn’t miss a chance to crack jokes.
  • Many users cheekily said they were disappointed about not getting a task to do during the lockdown.
Soon after PM Modi extended the coronavirus lockdown till May 3, jokes and comments started pouring on social media. While Indians realised that it is necessary, they didn’t shy away from joking about it. Several people even asked for another activity — like lamp lighting and banging utensils that Modi announced in his last two speeches.

#Lockdown2 and #3rdMay. were the top trends in the country at 12.25 pm on Twitter.

Modi, in his fourth address to the nation about the coronavirus, said India will be extending the nation-wide lockdown by another 19 days to contain the spread.

Here’s how India reacted to the lockdown extension news with jokes and memes:

Many users were disappointed about not getting a task to do during the coronavirus lockdown.

A twitter user edited the famous dialogue from the popular movie Karan Arjun and mixed PM Modi’s latest speech with it.

Another user associated all Indians with Kumbhkarana — the younger brother of Ravana who would wake up only on occasions and sleep the rest of the time.

Some other users Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s character, Ganesh Gaitonde from Sacred Games, to express their boredom.

People also mocked smokers and alcoholics who aren’t getting enough supplies.

Somesh Upadhyay, an IAS officer, wrote after the lockdown the air will be so clean that people will be able to see John Cena.
