A day after imposing a night curfew in the state, Karnataka has now withdrawn the order. “Night curfew order, issued earlier, has been withdrawn after reviewing the situation on the suggestion of Technical Advisory Committee,” said a statement from the Chief Minister's Office, Karnataka.

On Wednesday (December 23), the Karnataka government had imposed a night curfew restricting movement between 11 pm to 5 am, in wake of reports of a new COVID-19 mutant strain in the UK.

However, a new statement from the Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa says that “in wake of public opinion that a night curfew is not necessary, it has been decided to withdraw it after discussions with the Cabinet colleagues and senior officials.”

Given the festive season with Christmas and New Year’s around the corner, people have still been advised to strictly follow COVID-19 regulations and avoid unnecessary travel.
