Kerala COVID-19 tally inching towards 3000 mark, 118 new cases
Thiruvananthapuram, June 19 (): The COVID-19 infection tally in Kerala is inching towards the 3,000 mark with 118 new cases being reported onFriday, the highest single day spike, while 1.32 lakh people are under observation in various districts.

With the addition of the fresh cases, 2912 people have been infected by the pandemic, while 1380 people are under treatment and 1509 have recovered, including 96 who were cured and discharged today, Health minister K K Shailaja said.

New positive cases on a single day had touched three digits for the first time in the state on June 5 when 111 people were infected.

Malappuram reported 18 cases today, Kollam 17, Alappuzha 13, Ernakulam 11, Palakkad 10, Pathnamthitta nine, Thiruvananthapuram and Kannur eight cases each, Kottayam seven, Kozhikode six, Wayanad, Kasaragod four each, Idukki two and Thrissur one.

Of the positive cases, 67 people had come from abroad, including Kuwait 35 and UAE 14 and 45 from other states, including Maharashtra 16, Delhi nine and Tamil Nadu eight.

About 1,32,569 people are under observation in various districts of whom 1,30,655 are at home/institutional quarantine and 1914 people are in hospitals, the minister said in a press release.

In the last 24 hours, 4889 samples have been sent for testing.

So far samplesof 1.30 lakh people have been sent for testing and results of 3186 samples have yet to be received.
