Maha: Transgenders provide free meals to poor during lockdown
Thane, Apr 22 () After NGOs and governmentagencies, now members of the transgender community have alsocome out to help the needy during the COVID-19 lockdown atUlhasnagar town of Maharashtra's Thane district.

Transgenders have been feeding the needy, many of whomhave lost their livelihoods ever since the lockdown wasimposed to contain the spread of coronavirus in the state, anactivist said.

At Ulhasnagar's Camp no. 4, transgenders have beenproviding free meals to the poor in the area twice a day, hesaid.

The initiative was managed by a local NGO along withtransgenders and several other volunteers, he added.

The move has garnered appreciation from locals and theauthorities alike, as transgenders are themselves amarginalised community and are often discriminated against intheir everyday life, the activist said. CORARU ARU
