60 percent of adults think their significant others are more attentive to their smartphones than their partners and that’s the least scary finding of this studyValentine’s Day is just round the corner and this is the perfect time to see how much in love you are with your... smartphones! Yes, that’s right 57 percent of Indian users have said that they have had to compete with the device of their partners for attention, on the first date. Intel security’s study called “Three’s Company: Lovers, Friends and Devices.” shows a mirror to how this level of technological penetration impact human interactions & relationships. For instance, 60 percent of adults think their significant others are more attentive to their smartphones than their partners. And that’s not all, not only the devices eat into your time with your loved ones but they cause a fair amount of trouble too, 75 percent of Indians have gotten into an argument over the use of a device when they are with their partners, didn’t I say it gets worse.

We have seen a huge jump in the use of use of connected devices by Indians at home in the last couple of years. And of course the device comes with trouble, turns out that Indians spend more time on their devices than interacting with their family at home. On an average a person spends 43 percent of the time on their devices and family members barely get 40% of their time.
The study is right to point out that the device has become an entity in itself just like you and your partner in your relationship. And sadly so, many couples have accepted the fact that there is no getting rid of the third entity in their relationship that has become so important in a such a short time, reason why 24 percent of Indian couples aren’t doing anything about it but 33 percent of couples claim they set rules for how much a device may be used, when they are going out. I’d say, way to go!

So why not be the change yourself and make a ‘no smartphone’ rule for this Valentine ’s Day and may be celebrate the day in a more meaningful way. #nodevices - just saying!
