An active-duty Marine Corps commissioned officer was arrested on Thursday and charged with assault on a federal law enforcement officer in connection with the January 6 Capitol insurrection, the US Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia said in a press release.

Major Christopher Warnagiris, who's stationed at the Marine Corps base Quantico, has been charged with assaulting, resisting or impeding certain officers; obstruction of law enforcement during civil disorder; and obstruction of justice, among other charges.

Prosecutors said Warnagiris, 40, "defied, pushed, and resisted Capitol Police to help others break into the US Capitol" on January 6.

Security footage cited by prosecutors apparently shows Warnagiris pushing through a line of police officers upon entering the Capitol building, then using his body to hold a door open and let others in behind him.
