CNN urged Elon Musk to "be better" after he shared an image on Twitter that appeared to show a fake headline from the network.

Musk on Monday morning posted a photoshopped image with the headline: "CNN: Elon Musk could threaten free speech on Twitter by literally allowing people to speak freely."

The photo featured an image of a CNN anchor and Musk's portrait in a smaller box.

In response, CNN's communications department posted a screenshot of Musk's tweet, which had a disclaimer on top saying the tweet violates Twitter's rules.

"This headline never appeared on CNN. Be better," CNN wrote.

The image Musk posted Monday first circulated in April and is now making the rounds on social media again.

At the time, the Associated Press debunked the headline and said the image came from the satirical website the Genesius Times.

Since the billionaire assumed control over Twitter last month — and made sweeping changes — he has been accused of sharing misinformation a handful of times.

These actions appear to have contradicted one of his goals, which was to make Twitter the "most accurate source of information."
