Singapore reports 125 new COVID-19 cases

Singapore, Jul 9 () Singapore on Thursday reported 125 new coronavirus infections, including 21 community infections and the rest being foreign workers living in dormitories, the Ministry of Health said.

Out of the 21 community cases, four are Singaporeans (citizens) or permanent residents (foreigners) and 17 are foreigners holding work passes and living outside the dorms.

The number of COVID-19 cases among foreign workers living in dormitories was 104, the ministry said.

As of Thursday, the total number of cases in Singapore reached 45,423 and the death toll stands at 26.

"From our preliminary investigations, of the 21 cases, five were close contacts of earlier cases and had already been placed on quarantine," the ministry said.

There is also one imported case who has been placed on stay-home notice upon arrival in Singapore.

Meanwhile, A 69-year-old-Singaporean man was found unresponsive at home on Tuesday.

He had been found unresponsive on Tuesday and was taken to Sengkang General Hospital's emergency department. He was confirmed to have COVID-19 infection on the same day.

"The preliminary cause of death is cardiorespiratory failure, pending further investigations by the coroner," the ministry said on Wednesday.

The ministry said the overall number of new cases in the community has increased, from an average of eight cases per day in the week to an average of 14 per day in the past week.

There were also three imported cases. They include a 13-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl - both Indian nationals and Dependant's Pass holders. They returned to Singapore from India on June 26, reported Channel News Asia.

The remaining case is a 24-year-old Singaporean man who returned from the Philippines on June 26.

All of them were placed on 14-day stay-home notices when they arrived in Singapore, and were tested while serving their orders.

A total of 321 more COVID-19 patients have been discharged. In all, 41,323 have fully recovered from the infection and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities.

A further 3,734 are isolated and cared for at community facilities. These are those who have mild symptoms, or are clinically well but still test positive for COVID-19. GS AMS
