Folks in the Windy City who use services like Netflix and Spotify are going to be paying more than the rest of the country thanks to a new city tax.The Chicago Tribune has reported that the city has expanded its 9% city amusement tax to include streaming subscribers.

The tax is currently applied to the purchase of tickets to sporting events and concerts.
Netflix has confirmed that the tax will added to their subscription cost by September 1.
According to the Tribune story, the city will bring in an estimated $12 million each year and is a recent example of Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel attempting to help the city's budget woes through existing taxes.

The tax will apply to all paid subscriptions for streamed digital music, rented movies, and TV shows.
