iPhone lovers in India have a reason to cheer. Foxconn Technology is inn discussions with the Indian government officials to set up its first manufacturing plant in India.

According to a Reuters report, the setting up of a manufacturing unit in India could mitigate the increasing wage inflation in China, where a major chunk of Apple's iPhones are made. Manufacturing in India will also be cost efficient as it will be closer to the target markets of its key clients.

The local production of iPhones also mean that the cost of production will come down, which in turn will help Foxconn keep hold of Apple orders amid intensifying competition with nimble manufacturing rivals such as Quanta Computer Inc.

“Foxconn is sending a delegation of their officers to scout for locations in a month's time,” said Subhash Desai, Industries Minister of Maharashtra.

The company aims to set up 10 to 12 facilities in India which includes factories and data centres, by 2020.
