Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), India's largest car maker, has increased prices of its select models across its range of vehicles by up to Rs 20000, so that it can balance the effect that adverse foreign exchange movement has had on its pricing.

The price increase is with effect from August 1, 2016.

It was in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) that the car maker announced the price rise. "This price revision is based on factors like segment wise demand, forex movements and strategic objectives of the company," read an official statement from MSIL.

The price rise starts from Rs 1500, but could go up to Rs 20000 in case of MSIL’s new launch Vitara Brezza.
