Although many automakers have voiced their opposition, Folger said it is a necessary step in a radical situation.

Supreme Court has temporarily banned registration of diesel vehicles above 2 litre engine in the backdrop of rising pollution.

India’s Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari will meet CEOs of automobile companies and listen to their grievances over the two matters.

Meanwhile, on the diesel ban, Folger hinted it would affect Mercedes’ future investment and employment generation potential in India.
Folger said Mercedes was ready to introduce BS VI vehicles on short notice, if the fuel was available in the country

"We are seeing how we can contribute to solving this problem. We have the technology and we can bring it into the country at a very short notice, we just need the right fuel," he said.
