Prime Minister Narendra Modi is paying heed to issues faced by global investors and one of the issues is enforcement of intellectual property rights in India.
In this regard, Modi has asked reduction in paperwork, while slamming delays in approving patent and trademark applications.
Modi wants to get speedier clearances and raised concern with Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trademarks, agency for such approvals, over the prolonged delays.
"The PM expressed concern at the undue delay in processing of requests for patents and trademarks and directed these processes be brought in line with global standards, within a reasonable timeframe," said a statement from the Prime Minister's Office.
Modi also wants an overhaul of the patent application filing process, and a drastic reduction in the number of forms required for this process.
The move came after the prime minister held a meeting to monitor progress on several critical fronts through video-conferencing called Pragati-Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation.
"The Prime Minister reviewed the progress of implementation of National Food Security Act, 2013 and Aadhar card enrolment, and emphasized speedy implementation so that citizens can avail the benefits of these initiatives," the PM's Office said in a statement.
The PM also reviewed the progress on metro rail projects in Lucknow and Mumbai, the Sikkim airport as well as road, power and mining projects across states.
He also reviewed the progress on specific Indian projects in Afghanistan, including the building of a new Parliament and the Salma Dam.
