Last time, the general elections in this assembly seat for Delhi Vidhan Sabha was held in 2015 and in the aid elections, the winning candidate was AAP’s Rajesh Rishi. His vote score was 71,802. The runner up candidate was Prof. Jagdish Mukhi of BJP who got 46222 votes. The difference margin between them was 25,580. Earlier Rajesh Rishi of AAP was the runner up candidate in 2013 elections when he scored 40242 votes leaving BJP’s Jagdish Mukhi victoriously with 42,886 votes.
The state legislative assembly constituency of Janakpuri occurs within the South West Delhi parliamentary seat jurisdiction. In total Delhi assembly has 70 seats and all of them will go for assembly elections in February 2020 as the present five year term of the ruling party comes to an end on 22 February 2020. The Janakpuri assembly constituency has got 1,73,907 voters in total. The number of male voters here is 92,960. The female voters is 80,939 in number. The remaining 8 are third gender voters.
Jagdish Mukhi of the BJP remained the MLA of this assembly constituency for very long from 1993 to 2015. In all the elections conducted from 1993 to 2008, the runner up candidates were INC contestants. In 1993 elections, Jagdish Mukhi got 33,905 votes and won the elections. In the other elections he won this seat, his votes were 31115 in 1998 elections, 35,281 in 2003 polls, 50,655 in 2008 polling, and 42,886 in 2013 elections. This seat remained the stronghold of BJP for a very long time till AAP snatched it from them in 2015 elections.
