The Power Ministry has assured Prime Minister Narendra Modi that electricity supply will remain uninterrupted in spite of non-availability of coal from the blocks whose allotment was cancelled by the Supreme Court. The ministry also vowed to focus on generating electricity from other sources.

"As far as supplying coal to these power projects after coal blocks' deallocation is concerned, the ministry will need to formulate a policy for giving appropriate coal linkage or coal block (through auction) to their end use power projects in consultation with the ministry of power," the ministry wrote to the Prime Minister's Office.

The ministry added that since the Supreme Court has given a period of six months to the coal companies, power supply is not likely to be immediately affected.
