Premier League clubs spent a record $1.8 billion during the summer transfer window

The English Premier League's 20 clubs spent a combined $1.8 billion (£1.4 billion) on players during the recent summer transfer window, shattering the previous record by 23%.

Manchester City led the way, spending $288 million on players. They did receive $118 million during the transfer window, however, their $170 million net expenditure was tops among all teams. Manchester United ($165 million) was the only team with net spending over $100 million.
In all, the net spending by the 20 clubs topped $830 million, according to data collected by Sporting Intelligence.
