A Florida Chick-fil-A worker is being called a hero after stopping an attempted carjacking
- An employee in Florida stopped a man attempting to carjack a woman and her baby in a Chick-fil-A parking lot.
- Mykel Gordon has worked at Chick-fil-A for 14 years, and previously helped customers injured in a car.
A Florida Chick-fil-A worker is making headlines for the second time after saving a woman and her baby from an attempted carjacking on September 14.
A man grabbed the victim's keys and threatened her with a stick in the parking lot as she was taking the baby out of the car, the Oscaloosa County Sheriff's Office said in a Facebook post later that day. The Chick-fil-A worker, identified by The Washington Post as Mykel Gordon, ran to her aid. In a video taken by a bystander and shared by the Sheriff's office, Gordon pinned the man to the ground.
William Branch, the other man in the video, was charged with carjacking with a weapon and battery, the Sheriff's Office said.
Mykel Gordon has worked at the Beal Parkway Chick-fil-A for 14 years as an "outstanding," employee, a Chick-fil-A spokesperson told Insider.
"We're so relieved that our Guests and Team Members are safe following this alarming incident. I'm grateful for my amazing Team Member, Mykel Gordon, who so selflessly jumped in to intervene and help our Guests. I couldn't be prouder of his incredible act of care," Matthew Sexton, operator of the location, told Insider in a statement. The restaurant also posted a photo on Facebook praising Gordon for his actions, writing 'At Chick-fil-A our mission is to "Serve" and today Mykel took it further……to "Save'".
Gordon has gone into action to save a customer before. In 2018 when a crane fell onto a car with two passengers inside, he ran from his position taking drive-thru orders to help them. Gordon said he relied on instinct to help the two girls out of the car while waiting for paramedics to arrive.
Posts from Chick-fil-A and the sheriff's office have started to make the rounds online, with customers around the country commenting and praising Gordon. Many of the comments reference Chick-fil-A's reputation for good service and polite workers.
"He shouldn't have messed with Chick-Fil-A workers. They have God on their side. Great job by that hero. I hope he gets a raise," one person wrote.
"Of course a Chick-fil-A employee ran to help, they're all amazing. I bet they said 'my pleasure' as a catch phrase," another commenter wrote.
