Every year heavy floods in Assam causes destruction, kills dozens of lives and displaces about a hundred thousand people.
Last year, as many as 166 people were killed due to the natural calamity in Bihar and Assam.

This year 321 villages are underwater and 2,678 hectares of crop areas have been damaged, according to Assam State Disaster Management Authority.
Embankments, roads, bridges, culverts and other infrastructure have been damaged in various places across Golaghat, Barpeta, Nalbari, Dhemaji, Majuli, Hojai, Sonitpur, Chirang, Karimganj, Nagaon, Bongaigaon, Dima Hasao, Baksa and Lakhimpur.

As many as 157 roads have been damaged by the floods in eight districts. Massive erosions have been witnessed at various places across Majuli, Sonitpur, Tinsukia, Chirang, Baksa, Biswanath and South Salmara districts.
Moreover, the Mander Gaon ME School was washed away in South Salmara.

The National Disaster Response Force and State Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has rescued nine people in the last 24 hours in the Goalpara district.
