The single parliamentary constituency of Sikkim went for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls on April 11 along with the 19 other states that went for polling during the first phase of elections. Sikkim is the stronghold of the SDF (Sikkim Democratic Front) that is in power since the year 1996. After the state became a part of India, Sikkim went for its first elections in 1975. Pawan Chamling, the Chief Minister of Sikkim hails from the SDF party and he has been holding his office for the past twenty five years creating a history of being one of the longest ruling chief ministers.

The major parties of the nation namely the BJP and the Congress are yet to open up their winning stories from the state. With their minimal presence, they are far from hoping to win from here. The SDF has nominated Prem Das Rai from the Sikkim Lok Sabha constituency for the 2019 general elections. Notably, Rai has been the MP from this single parliamentary constituency state continuously for two terms being elected and reelected in 2009 and 2014 parliamentary elections. Seen curiously waiting for the results, the BJP candidate for the seat is Laten Tshering Sherpa and the Congress candidate facing the elections is Bharat Basnett.
