Some users of the beta version of the forthcoming iOS 9 for the Apple iPhone and iPad are taking to social media with reports of a system alert that the full version of the new mobile operating system is now available.

The bad news is that it's probably just a glitch, per this tweet from the Apple bloggers extraordinaire at 9to5Mac:

Indeed, those getting the alert report that no update is actually available from the iPhone's Settings menu, where you usually download new versions of iOS:

The good news is that this means that Apple is more likely than ever to announce the official release of iOS 9 at its September 9th event in San Francisco this week.

The Apple rumor mill holds that iOS 9 will go out to users of the iOS beta on Wednesday, after the event, with a release to the general public a week later on September 16th.

The new iOS 9 adds a bunch of cool new features, including a smarter Siri with more awareness of context, a beautiful new News app, and public transit directions in the much-maligned Apple Maps.
