The race was allowed to restart under the "recognized mishap" rule, Cycling Weekly reported.

That rule applies when a cyclist has a "legitimate fall, a puncture or the breakage of an essential part of the bicycle," the report said.

Australia came fifth in the restarted race. That means they lost their chance at gold or silver medels, but could still get bronze.
