But the runs were achieved across his 13-year long career across all the three formats of the game -- test, one-day and T20. With this, he joins the elite list of batsmen across the world to have done so. In India, he is the fourth opener to do so - Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag are the other three.

Sharma however is only one of the list with an average over 50. In 219 innings, Rohit amassed 10,117 runs, averaging 50.33.

In the current ongoing New Zealand series, this feat looked elusive for Sharma. Rohit scoring a mere 7 and 8 in the first two matches. But he got third-time lucky with a thrilling comeback with half a century in a mere 23 deliveries. His knock was laced with six boundaries and three hits right into the stands.

Sharma’s consecutive sixes in the final two balls of the thrilling Super Over, also gave India its maiden T20 series win in New Zealand following but only after a nerve-wracking finish.
