Suspected ISIS operative sent to 15 days NIA custody

Azhar Iqbal, a suspected ISIS operative, who was arrested for allegedly conspiring to carry out terror strikes in India, was today remanded to NIA custody by a Delhi court. He would remain in custody till February 19.Iqbal was arrested from Madhya Pradesh by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), and was produced before District Judge Amar Nath during in-camera proceedings. According to sources, NIA sought his custodial interrogation for 15 days.
The sources said that NIA told the court that Iqbal was required to be interrogated so that his associates could be identified, and their funding pattern could be associated. He is also required to be taken to various places in the country so that an investigation could be carried out.
Iqbal, who belongs to Barkheda Raisen, MP, was arrested by the NIA when the agency cracked down on sympathisers of the West Asian terror group ISIS.
