Your iPhone's PIN passcode is a great way to keep your phone secure, even if you already use fingerprint ID or Face ID.

This is a great feature if you have children that use your iPhone and you don't want them to access certain apps, or if you have some apps you want to add an extra layer of protection to, like your email or your banking app.

Naturally, though, if somebody figures out this passcode, you're going to want to change it. Luckily, Apple makes that pretty simple to do.

Here is how to change the restrictions passcode on your iPhone through your Settings app.

How to change the restrictions password on an iPhone with iOS 12 or later

1. Open the Settings app.

2. Tap "Screen Time," the last item on the second list of options. It has an hourglass icon next to it.

3. Scroll down on the "Screen Time" menu until you see "Change Screen Time Passcode," the first option written in blue. Tap it.

There won't be any button that says &quotReset" - you'll instead be looking for the highlighted &quotChange" button.William Antonelli/Business Insider

4. Two options will pop up at the bottom, asking if you would like to change the passcode or simply turn it off. Select "Change Screen Time Passcode."

You can also turn off the passcode altogether, which means your restrictions will disappear.William Antonelli/Business Insider

5. Enter your old passcode, as prompted.

6. Enter the new passcode twice, as prompted.

How to change the restrictions password on an iPhone with iOS 11 or earlier

1. Open the Settings app.

2. Scroll down to tap "General," the first option on the third list of items. Its symbol is identical to the Settings app icon.

3. Tap "Restrictions," the only option in the fifth group of items.

4. You will be prompted to enter your existing passcode. Do so.

5. Tap "Disable Restrictions," then enter your passcode again.

6. Now tap "Enable Restrictions" and enter your new passcode twice, as prompted.
