Sundar Pichai – the CEO of Google – opened up about the future of artificial intelligence in an interview with CBS' "60 Minutes," which aired Sunday.

He said a clinical radiologist is one such role that could be aided, and improved, by AI. These doctors use images to diagnose and treat medical conditions.

Pichai said AI could help such doctors to identify the most serious cases in their list of patients each day and flag if they have missed something important in their diagnosis.

"Why wouldn't we take advantage of a super-powered assistant to help you across everything you do?" he said.

Pichai noted that AI will disrupt certain jobs such as writers, accountants, architects, and even software engineers. Google previously found that AI chatbot ChatGPT could hypothetically pass interviews to be hired as an entry-level software engineer at the firm.

Google did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment about Pichai's thoughts on AI.

The tech giant rolled out its chatbot Bard to the public in March. Bard produces a text-based response to questions and prompts from users. The product was designed to "boost your productivity, accelerate your ideas and fuel your curiosity," according to Google.

Bard's release came after the launch of OpenAI's ChatGPT in October which became the fastest-growing consumer app in internet history, reaching 100 million users in just two months.

In December, Google's management team issued an internal "code red" in response to the hype over the release of ChatGPT. According to an internal memo viewed by The New York Times, Pichai participated in several meetings around Google's AI strategy and redirected some teams at the company to focus on building out the tech firm's own set of AI products.
