A secluded island can be a great place to take a holiday, but there are still some places in the world we know little about.

We've rounded up the most remote islands on earth, based on their distance from the nearest mainland.

Our list includes places that have turned their obscurity into a tourist attraction, like the Galapagos Islands, where some hotel rooms can cost visitors thousands.

Others are inhabited by scientific researchers or have indigenous populations that are cut off from the outside world, like North Senitel Island. The native Senitelese are pretty hostile towards visitors from the mainland.
