At least 10.35 million people live behind bars according to a new report from the International Center for Prison Studies (ICPS).

The list includes all people "held in penal institutions throughout the world, either as pre-trial detainees/remand prisoners, or having been convicted and sentenced," author of the report Roy Walmsley wrote.

The report notes that authoritarian regimes such as North Korea and China are likely to keep hundreds of thousands detained in labor camps.
