RV manufacturers have built more RVs in 2021 than any year before as demand for tiny homes on wheels have remained sky-high since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to data from the RV Industry Association (RVIA).

According to a monthly RVIA survey, RV manufacturers shipped about 57,970 units in October, a 22.5% increase year-over-year and a historic high for the month. Similarly, more RVs were produced in October than any month on record, beating September's previous record-setting number by over 5%.

As a result, 2021 has become the year of RVing: There are still two months left in the year, but RV manufacturers have already built more vehicles this year than any year prior.

From January to October, RV manufacturers produced a little over 510,600 units. To compare, 504,600 RVs were built in 2017, the last record-setting year. Now, RVIA projects the industry will ship at least 577,200 RVs by the end of this year.

"Despite the challenges we have faced with supply chain and workforce, what is really remarkable is the way the RV industry has found ways to overcome the issues and deliver 12-straight months of record shipments," Craig Kirby, RVIA's president and CEO, said in the report.

And so far, interest isn't dwindling. According to another recent RVIA survey, 72 million Americans are interested in taking an RV trip next year, an 18% boost compared to last year.
