An ultra-modern home in Washington state has just gone on the market for $11 million - and despite its 8,462 square footage, it was built to be so sustainable that the electric bill can be as shockingly low as $21 a month.

The contemporary house, which the current owner describes as "Guggenheim-meets-spaceship," was built in 2005 and has been on the market for two weeks, according to listing agent Michael Morrison.

The home is ideal for someone who doesn't want to be in the hustle and bustle, but who wants to be near it, Morrison told Business Insider. It's set on 85 acres about 70 miles from Seattle.

Here's a look inside.

'What makes [the home] special to me is, the minute you start to pull up the driveway and the driveway opens up, everything kind of melts away and it's really extremely peaceful,' Morrison said. 'You're so highly elevated and all you see is trees for miles.'

The unique house was a collaboration between a South African architect and a local Washington architect.

The current owner of the home described the home's aesthetic as 'The Guggenheim meets a spaceship.'

A staircase leads down from the second story to a large oval water feature.

Nature is woven into the home's design.

'Walking around the house outside is just as peaceful as walking on the inside,' Morrison said.

In addition to the various water features, there's a heated, saltwater lap pool with retractable glass walls.

Floor-to-ceiling glass lines many sides of the house.

'It's all about windows and light and nature coming inside,' Morrison said.

The home was designed to be 'all curves, no hard angles, nothing harsh about it inside,' Morrison said. 'It's all just flowing angles.'

The interior of the home is painted in neutral and pale pink shades.

There are at least three wood-burning fireplaces in the main house.

Morrison describes the home's style as 'South African modern, where it's a clean, contemporary, less-is-more approach.'

'There is no floor trim, there's no trim around the doors,' he said. 'The architecture speaks for itself, which is refreshing.'

The house has six bedrooms...

...and five bathrooms.

Pops of bright green can be seen in some parts of the house.

There's a media room, complete with TV and sound system, that feels like 'a cocoon,' Morrison said.

One unique space serves as a meditation and focus room. The walls are lined with copper for its health benefits, Morrison said.

A room called 'The Rose Room' is a fabric-lined reading nook and playroom for children.

The 8,462 square foot home was built to be self-sustaining.

'There are solar panels that run the house, the swimming pool and the barn/garage/guest house,' Morrison said. 'The heating is geo-thermal, so it uses the earth for heating and cooling.'

This year, one of the house's electric bills was only $21.

'[The home] is not for someone that wants to be in the middle of the hustle and bustle every day, but [someone who] wants to be in close proximity to it,' Morrison said.

Also on the property are gardens, fruit orchards, a three-bedroom guest house, an archery range, and a beehive complete with beekeeper.
