This is how LUSH makes big blocks of soap from fresh olives and olive oil

We visited LUSH's factory in Poole, the company's biggest in the world, and got to see the making of "Olive Tree" gourmet soap.

The soap contains an in-house made base, as well fresh olives, and olive oil sourced from a farm in Palestine.

The making process starts with granulated sugar and glycerine which are mixed at high temperature.

They then add the soap base, a natural pigment to give the soap a bright green colour, gardenia extract, and a paste obtained by mixing the olives and the olive oil.

All LUSH products also contain the brand's signature fragrance.

Once ready, it's separated in batches and left to set before being sent out to the shops.

LUSH's factory in Poole has around 800 members of staff. They made over 50 million items here in 2017, around 100,000 a day in busy times.
