To help you figure out what your interviewer is looking for, we consulted "Crazy Good Interviewing" by John B. Molidor, Ph.D., and Barbara Parus, in which the authors lay out key strategies for job seekers.

The authors suggest that one way to adopt the hiring manager's mindset is to figure out roughly which generation he or she belongs to. Each generation of execs wants different qualities in their new hires. For example, older folks tend to value loyalty to their company; younger ones prize the ability to multitask.

Below, we've outlined Molidor and Parus's tips on how you should behave in an interview depending on your interviewer's approximate age.

Note that it matters less which generation you belong to and more which generation your interviewer identifies with. These techniques could be useful for anyone, regardless of your age.

Still, these tactics won't work on every single interviewer. It's important to act respectful, keep a positive attitude, and come prepared - no matter who the hiring manager is.
